To seek support for the inscription of Mt. Apo Natural Park as a UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-XI) Regional Executive Director Bagani Fidel A. Evasco recently convened with Cotabato Provincial Governor Emmylou โ€œLalaโ€ Taliรฑo-Mendoza.

To strengthen the effort in the conservation and protection of Mt Apo Natural Park, the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) headed by its Chairman, RED Evasco, seek the support of the Provincial Government of Cotabato in the declaration of Mt. Apo as a Geopark. RED Evasco, together with the DENR Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) of Cotabato Renato Domingo, DENR-PENR Officer of Davao del Sur Dr Alberto N. Bandiola and Protected Area Superintendent of Mt Apo Natural Park Dr. Archelito L. Mallari implored Governor Mendoza the benefit of the inscription, and furthering relations among stakeholders in the common goal of protecting the natural park.

Mt. Apo Natural Park, a protected area straddling between Region XI and Region XII is in the process of its bid as a global geopark, a declaration that will further put Mt. Apo in the list of unique geological features among 177 geoparks in 46 countries all over the world.

The PAMB is set to unify provincial and local government units, National Government Agencies and stakeholders of Mt Apo Natural Park in achieving its goals towards environmental conservation, harmonization of policies, and international cooperation and recognition to strengthen the efforts of preserving its natural geological heritage.
