4 17 Coastal Clean up Davao Oriental 1The DENR-XI, through its CENRO Lupon headed by OIC, CENR Officer Henry G. Yap, together with Forester III Romel D. Oranda, and in partnership with the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Piso, Banaybanay, Davao Oriebtal headed by Punong Barangay Hussein Lamaran, strengthens partnership, in unison for the planet Earth through the conduct of coastal clean-up activity in So. Bucana, Brgy. Piso, Banaybanay of the said province.

The collective effort aims to “walk the talk” as the nation celebrates the Month of the Planet Earth (April) by virtue of Presidential Proclamation 1482. S. 2008 alongside Earth Day (April 22) which is celebrated globally.

Participating on the celebration that carries this year’s theme "Invest in Our Planet" were about 50 participants who collected an approximately 55 kilos of solid waste along the 1-kilometer stretch shoreline.

This advocacy helps strengthen the level of awareness of stakeholders on environmental protection and conservation. The drive also aims to remind everyone that the planet Earth, our sole home, faces the threat of degradation and destruction, so is our quality of life.

Punong Barangay Lamaran proudly shared their effort of maintaining the vast stretch of mangrove along its shoreline, acknowledging its contribution to protecting its constituents from disastrous calamities and unfortunate events.

Swung into action, SK Chairperson Abdulkarim has led the enjoinment of children in So. Bucana, to do simple yet impactful deeds such as picking up garbage and throwing it in the proper bin. The parents were also engaged by reminding them to manage their solid wastes properly.

Indeed, the criteria to invest in our planet is not bounded. Every action that is taken against climate crisis and to ensure sustainability for the Earth and its future is counted. We can make a change, one step at a time.
