PENRO Davao de Oro kickstarted the Chinese New Year with the successful and productive back-to-back meetings of the two Protected Area Management Boards (PAMBs) of Mainit Hot Springs Protected Landscape (MHSPL) and Mabini Protected Landscape and Seascape (MPLS), respectively, on February 03, 2022, at Heroben Hometel in Tagum City.
Taking the morning slot, the MHSPL-PAMB unanimously endorsed the Special Use Agreement (SAPA) of Toyozu Mountain Resort in Barangay Bukal, Nabunturan, Davao de Oro, expected to contribute an annual income of Php 598,094.50 for the Integrated Protected Area Fund (IPAF) of MHSPL. The milestone is projected to help fund various conservation-related endeavors in the protected area.
Additionally, the board approved the implementation of the Enhanced National Greening Program (ENGP) covering 70 hectares of land within the protected area which will be planted with indigenous tree species by the Bukal Small Coconut Farmers Organization.
During the afternoon, the MPLS-PAMB approved the utilization of the Php 5.4- million income from the IPAF of MPLS, a portion of which will cover the provision of financial assistance for the Blue Brigade Association for the latter's chosen Biodiversity-Friendly Enterprise (BDFE) to be implemented within the protected area.
After presenting the updates on the recent developments instigated in the protected area, the MPLS-PAMB unexpectedly passed a unanimous resolution commending the DENR PENRO Davao de Oro under the administration of OIC-PENR Officer Rita Fe C. Gunn, Ph.D., for her leadership and initiatives for the protected area.
PENRO Gunn, who is also the concurrent Protected Area Superintendent of both reserves, was elated with the outcome of the meetings as the members of both management boards have manifested their unending support for the continued conservation and protection of Davao de Oro’s two protected areas.
Also present during the said event were CENR Officer and Deputy PASu Martiniano G. Rotol, DMO II and Focal Person for the two PAs Clint Michael Cleofe, and Supervising EMS Juliana D. Español.
