With the aim to snowball protected area revenue collection, twenty-four personnel of the Mabini Protected Landscape and Seascape (MPLS) in the Municipality of Mabini, Davao de Oro were oriented relative to their duties and responsibilities as Sub-Collectors for the Integrated Protected Area Fund (IPAF) of MPLS.
Collection of entrance fees from visitors entering the protected area was fortified, as PENRO Rita Fe C. Gunn, PhD., OIC-PENR Officer of PENRO Davao de Oro and concurrent Protected Area Superintendent of MPLS, encouraged the collectors to strive harder in increasing the collection of entrance fees in the protected area with utmost diligence.
Building up collection is aimed to support the programs and projects in the protected area and subsequently improve management effectiveness, which will benefit the communities surrounding the reserve.
In 2021, the total cumulative revenue generated in MPLS reached Php 9,754,200.61, of which, 25% was remitted to the national government while 75% was retained to the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) for direct utilization.
MPLS is one of the 94 legislated protected areas in the country pursuant to RA 7586 as amended by RA 11038 or the Expanded National Integrated Protected Area System (ENIPAS) Act of 2018.
