7 8 Davao OrientalCity of Mati, Davao Oriental - On July 7, 2021, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Mati headed by their Station Commander LTJG Elmar B. Mesina, PCG, and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Mati headed by their Provincial Chief PMaj Ricky M. Fornolles both paid a courtesy call to CENR Officer Zaldy L. Lumaan and PENR Officer Alberto N. Bandiola at CENRO Mati Office, Matiao, City of Mati, Davao Oriental.

Guided with common mandate of protecting and conserving the environment and natural resources of the country, the DENR and the two (2) enforcement agencies renew ties and commitment. Both likewise expressed to pursue incessant conservation efforts amidst the threat of global pandemic.

The agencies discussed several issues and possible strategies to address it including the illegal fishing within Pujada Bay Protected Landscape and Seascape (PBPLS), deployment of buoys and markers within the boundaries of PBPLS.

It also prompted the drafting of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DENR and CIDG for the adoption of area for mangrove rehabilitation. Even if the agreement is not sealed yet, the latter agencies already walked the talk by conducting a simultaneous coastal clean-up and mangrove tree planting activity at Sitio Guang-Guang, Dahican, City of Mati, Davao Oriental on that same day.

Lumaan in his message expressed his profound gratitude to the said agencies through its officials for their unwavering support and active role in helping CENRO Mati curtail the incidents of environmental violations within his Area of Responsibility (AOR). Meanwhile, PENRO Bandiola also conveyed his appreciation to the said agencies for the gesture of support and commitment they both showed to DENR.
