12 15 DavaodelSur Mt ApoTo further intensify the enforcement initiatives in Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP), the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Davao del Sur headed by PENR Officer Alberto N. Bandiola together with OIC MANP Protected Area Superintendent (PASu) Joel S. Pardillo re-oriented and handed over deputation orders to 35 Deputized Environment and Natural Resources Officers (DENROs) last December 13, 2021. This event was also attended and witnessed by M Local Tourism Officers of Sta. Cruz, Digos City and Bansalan.

As DENR is mandated to involve the citizenry in the protection and conservation of the environment and natural resources, DENROs are given the responsibility to assist in the enforcement of environmental laws, rules, and regulations as well as in the issuance of apprehension receipts and in the conduct of ENR information campaign, among others.

The newly-deputized ENROs, who are members of the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and employees from the LGUs and Water District, were products of the extensive and blended two-day training done last August 11-12 and August 18-19, 2021. Topics discussed during the training were different environmental laws being implemented by the DENR through its Mines and GeoSciences Bureau and the Environmental Management Bureau.

Protected Area Management was also discussed during the training as these DENROs will be enforcing environmental laws, rules, and regulations within the Mt. Apo Natural Park.

Newly-designated DENRO Bae Gerlinda Uwok who is an IPMR of the Unified Bagobo Tagabawa Tribe in Brgy Binaton, Digos City, said that she is hopeful that this endeavor will be a success since it involves the Indigenous Cultural Communities and hopes that additional capacity building activities will be done by the DENR thru the PAMB in the near future.

During the culmination program, the deputized ENROs had their oath-taking and patrol plan formulation and handing over of DENR IDs and Special Orders signed by DENR-XI Regional Executive Director Bagani Fidel A. Evasco.
