11 13 CENRO DigosIt has been a couple of years since Davao City, among other areas in the region and in entire Mindanao, experienced high-magnitude and catastrophic ground shaking. People have since heightened their awareness in handling such disaster.

Thus, to refresh everyone’s knowledge and in consonance with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (NDRRMC) Memorandum No. 132, series of 2021 for the implementation of the 4th Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) offices, including the field office of CENRO Digos, Davao del Sur, participated in the aforesaid event.

The observance aims to revitalize, enhance and practice NDRRMC’s national campaign in advancing the public’s earthquake preparedness ultimately aimed towards community resilience.

DENR XI-CENRO Digos personnel quick-wittedly performed the basic-but-important ‘Duck, Hold and Cover’ as the commencement of the drill at exactly 9’oclock in the morning of 11 November 2021 which was supervised online by the Office of Civil Defense through their official Facebook Page.

Back in 2019, CENRO Digos was then one of the badly hit DENR field offices caused by a series of strong and catastrophic earthquakes that occurred in the region. The severity of the event resulted to structural damages coupled with employees’ emotional impairment. It has since been more imperative that proper response during this kind of natural disaster must be instilled to everyone.

Republic Act No. 10121, otherwise known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Law, promotes awareness and practical knowledge for all Filipinos regarding disaster management, resilience and response, hence, must be an integral part of National Government function and system.
