DENR XI Regional Executive Director Bagani Fidel A. Evasco has expedite an order to DENR field offices to conduct clearing operation of campaign materials posted on trees. The order came after netizens expressed their concern of the growing number of campaign materials being posted on trees in the city.
The office has already commenced the removal of campaign materials posted on trees along major thoroughfares in Davao City.
Further, Director Evasco reminded the running local and national candidates to inform their supporters not to post, (nailed or wired) their campaign propaganda on naturally growing or planted trees as it injures or damages them. It is a clear violation of the law citing Republic Act No. 3571, an act that prohibits the cutting, destroying or injuring of planted or growing trees, flowering plants and shrubs, or plants of scenic value along public roads, in plazas, parks, school premises or any other public ground.
As a head start, about 2 cubic meters of campaign materials, including wood frames and posts were removed along Dacudao Avenue and Buhangin Diversion Road.
Section 3 of PD 953 also states that any person who cuts, destroys, damages or injures naturally grown or planted trees of any kind, flowering or ornamental plants and shrubs, or plants of scenic, aesthetic and ecological value, along public roads, in plazas, parks other than national parks, or in any other public ground or place, shall be punished with imprisonment for not less than six months and not more than two years or a fine of not less than five hundred pesos and not more than five thousand pesos, or both at the discretion of the court.
