The DENR-XI through its Regional Executive Director Bagani Fidel A. Evasco, along with Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte and Chinese Consulate -General in Davao, Li Lin scaled the peaks of highest mountain in the Philippines- Mt. Apo- previously in November 17-19, 2021 for the conduct of interagency climb assessment and monitoring of the said natural park.
Consul General Li Lin, expressed his gratitude to RED Evasco for making his first-time ascending Mt. Apo uncomplicated and memorable. Unfazed with the challenging ascent, the Consul General was rather marvelled by mountain’s rich biodiversity and dazzled by its impressive landscape. He further revealed that to be a part of Mt. Apo’s protection and conservation has been a long-standing plan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
Meanwhile, Davao City Vice-Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte, an ardent mountaineer himself extolled DENR’s efforts in pushing for stricter trekking rules and regulations and for establishing a level of protection for Mt. Apo’s ecosystems.
Mt. Apo rises at an altitude of 3,146 metres (10,321.5 ft.) which makes it the country’s reigning highest mountain. It is an established protected area by virtue of Republic Act 11038 or the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 1992 and Republic Act 9237 which proclaimed the majestic mountain as Natural Park. Its protection, conservation and management are under the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) which is chaired by the DENR’s Regional Executive Director.
Meanwhile, Mt. Apo’s 3-month off-season which commenced last August has been lifted which means that trekking and camping activities has resumed.
