A memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-XI), and Aboitiz Group was signed today, August 3, 2021 to give support to the forest rangers that will cover every area of both Mt. Apo Natural Park and Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary.
Present at the event were signatories DENR-XI Regional Executive Director Bagani Fidel A. Evasco, Davao Light and Power Co., Inc., President and Chief Operating Officer Rodger S. Velasco, and Apo Agua Infrastructure, Inc. Operations Head Shake A. Tuason.
Witnesses during the MOA signing are DENR-XI Assistant Regional Executive Director (ARED) for Technical Services For. Victor T. Billones; ARED for Management Services, Atty. Ma. Mercedes V. Dumagan; Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) for Davao del Sur, Pablito M. Ofrecia; and PENRO for Davao Oriental For. Alberto N. Bandiola.
Under the agreement, the Aboitiz Group through the Davao Light and Power Co., Inc., and Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. will support the DENR-XI by donating communication equipment worth Php 500,000 for the use of the forest rangers who are patrolling the slopes and mountain paths surrounding Mt. Apo Natural Park in Davao del Sur, and Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary in Davao Oriental.
Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP) has a total land area of about 64,053 hectares that is located in south-central Mindanao, from the provinces of North Cotabato in Region 12 to Davao del Sur and Davao City in Region 11. While, Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary has a total land area of 6,834 hectares located in Davao Oriental. Both protected areas are ASEAN Heritage Parks, known for their unique biodiversity and ecosystems, wilderness and outstanding values.
