Mangroves or locally known as βkabakhawanβ is one of the communityβs underpins to help mitigate the effects of climate change and reduce the risks of other natural disasters.
In Davao region, 2,113 hectares of mangrove area has already been established since the implementation of National Greening Program or NGP in 2011. Bakauan Babae (π βππ§ππβπππ ππ’ππππππ‘π), Bakauan Lalaki (π βππ§ππβπππ πππππ’πππ‘π), Bakauan Bato (π βππ§ππβπππ π π‘π¦πππ π) and Pototan (π΅ππ’ππ’ππππ π ππ₯ππππ’ππ) are among the species planted.
Through the NGP and its beneficiaries, the mangrove forest in coastal communities which has been battered by calamities has been re-established. It also resulted to the recovery of the communityβs livelihood.
Despite the threats and challenges, the DENR continuously plunge into strategies to conserve and protect our mangrove forests.
