As πππ€ππ€πππππππ¬ππ§ makes its comeback after a year of hiatus due to pandemic, the support it receives from the youths through Davao Regionβs participating High School institutions remains solid.
It is DENR XIβs supposed yearly event that aims to spur the creative ideas of the students and propel them to get involved with environmental issues through the conduct of Essay Writing and Photography contest.
For this yearβs Essay Writing Contest, the participants created their piece that adheres to the topic βπͺππππππ πͺπππππ ππππ

Among the participants who joined for their school, F. Bangoy National High School represented by their young writer Xyza Facun bagged this yearβs 1st place.
Her piece, βππ‘ππ§ ππ«π’π¦π’π§ππ₯π¬ ππ«π ππ₯π¬π¨ ππ’πππ’π¦π¬β where she preluded that βMother Earth is our judge, and entire humanity is the witness. As he slayed many lives in our nature, this insidious perpetrator was convicted with murder, robbery, assault, and other crimes. Mother Earth slammed her gavel and proclaimed to the entire world, "The suspect is guilty!"
Further she wrote, βAs I stand on this solid ground facing Mother Earth, I realize that climate change is not the culprit. It is us, human beings. We abuse the nature. Yet, we are also victims of climate change as we just disregarded our responsibilities to take care of our environment. We are now imprisoned to the chamber of danger of climate change. Mother Earth needs our help, we need her, so let's take this moment as an opportunity to reconcile with her. Mother Nature, do you hear us? We ask for forgiveness.β
For the Photography Contest, the contestants were given the liberty to use any device to capture images as their entry. With the given criteria- Creativity and Originality, Composition, Image/Technical Quality and Overall Impression/Impact, the same school- F. Bangoy National High School, represented by Gene Belle Lawas was hailed as champion.
The winning image, a what seems to be a boy reaching a pet bottle with his broom as he cleans up, was carved with a caption "ππππππ ππ πππππ: : To help the environment become eco-clean, a learner removes daily a drainage waste to ensure that it will not clog pipes or block drains."
Asked about the photographerβs impression, βIβm in awe. Itβs my first time being hailed as champion in a photography contest. [And] This event is also an opportunity to us, the youth, to realize our roles in protecting our environment especially in this time of pandemic.β
The 2-day (November 18-19, 2021) virtual event was conducted by the DENR XIβs Regional Strategic Communications and Initiatives Group (RSCIG).
"This MakakaLIKHAsan Contest, which is now on its 8th year, is one of DENR-XI's highly significant events which involve the youth sector. Through this, we don't only try to showcase their skills in writing and in photography but we also try to instil in them the right attitude in order to protect, conserve and manage our environment, our natural resources and our biodiversity.
