A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed between Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-XI), Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU), People’s Organization (PO) and SMCG Philippines Power Foundation, Inc., for the Mangrove Rehabilitation Project in Davao Occidental yesterday, October 14 at the DENR-XI Regional Office Quadrangle, Lanang, Davao City.
The MOA outlines the cooperation and coordination between corporate and government agencies on the conservation and rehabilitation of one hundred three (103) hectares of mangrove forests located within Sta. Maria and Malita, Davao Occidental.
The 5-year Mangrove Rehabilitation Project aims to contribute in the conservation and protection of forest in the areas where the SMCG Philippines Power Foundation, Inc. operates by organizing the local communities for environmental stewardship and develop a sustainable finance mechanism that will support forest based livelihood projects through partnership with government agencies and POs. The POs are the DENR’s partners in implementing conservation programs and projects and whom the department will share the benefits of such endeavour.
The MOA is anchored on the implementation and compliance to Executive Order No. 26, Series of 2011 or declaring an interdepartmental converge initiative for a National Greening Program and Administrative Order No. 14-2020 also known as the “Mandatory Tree/Mangrove Plantation a Condition for the Issuance of Accreditation, Certificate of Registration, Appointment or Award of Contract or Renewal/Extension thereof”, implemented by Philippine Port Authority (PPA).
The Memorandum of Agreement were signed by DENR-XI Regional Executive Director Bagani Fidel A. Evasco; Assistant Regional Executive Director for Technical Services For. Victor T. Billones; SMCG Philippine Power Foundation, Inc. Executive Director Cynthia V. Pantoñal; Logistic Manager George Basa; BLGU of Tanglad represented by Bopel Bonod Vistal; Technical Vocational Livelihood Entrepreneurship Association Chairman Aiza L. Torda; and MAHARLIKA Chairman Omar U. Habibon.
The momentous event was also graced by DENR-XI Assistant Regional Executive Director for Management Services Atty. Ma. Mercedes V. Dumagan and PENRO Davao Occidental OIC-Chief for Technical Services For. Eve M. Mallari.
