A CONSUMMATE SCHOLAR WHO FINISHED HER EDUCATION BAGGING THE HONORS, PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS, RECOGNITIONS AND HIGHEST ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS.

SHE GRADUATED AS VALEDICTORIAN OF HER BATCH IN STO. TOMAS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL AND COMPLETED BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN FORESTRY AS CUM LAUDE IN THE UNIVERSITY OF MINDANAO.

BEING ARMED WITH DETERMINATION, SHE BECAME A FORESTER AND FORWITH PURSUED MASTER OF SCIENCE IN INTERDISCIPLINARY NATURAL RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT IN ASIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, BANGKOK, THAILAND.

SHE THEN BECAME AN EDUCATOR IN THE UNIVERSITY OF MINDANAO- COLLEGE OF FORESTRY FOR TWO YEARS AND GRADUATE SCHOOL FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING FOR SIX YEARS.

PROLIFIC AS SHE IS, SHE JOINED THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES WITH A GROWING LIST OF SIGNIFICANT POSITIONS. HER STINTS INCLUDE BEING A COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT NATURAL RESOURCES OFFICER (CENRO) OF DAVAO CITY, A PROVINCIAL ENVIRONMENT NATURAL RESOURCES OFFICER (PENRO) OF DAVAO DEL NORTE AND OF DAVAO DEL SUR.

SHE ALSO SERVED IN REGION 7 (CEBU) AS REGIONAL TECHNICAL DIRECTOR OF PROTECTED AREAS WILDLIFE COASTAL ZONE MANAGEMENT SERVICES OR PAWCZMS AND EVENTUALLY BECAME THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT BUREAU OR EMB OF DAVAO REGION.

TAWANTAWAN IS A MEMBER OF THE MANAGERIAL CLASS IN THE GROUP OF CAREER POSITIONS IN THE PHILIPPINE CIVIL SERVICE. IN 2016, SHE WAS ONE OF THE AWARDEES WHO WERE GIVEN THE GOVERNMENT’S HIGHEST AWARD FOR CES MEMBERS- THE PRESIDENTIAL GAWAD CES AWARD, FOR HER COMMENDABLE PERFORMANCE, SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS AND INNOVATIONS IN FULFILLING THE NOBLE MISSION TO MOBILIZE THE CITIZENRY IN PROTECTING, CONSERVING AND MANAGING THE ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES.

IN JULY 2018, SHE OBTAINED HER APPOINTMENT AS CAREER EXECUTIVE OFFICER RANK II.

HER CAREER IN THE DEPARTMENT CONTINUOUSLY BLOSSOMS- SHE SERVED THE REGION 10 AS A REGIONAL DIRECTOR FROM JANUARY 30, 2012-FEBRUARY 5, 2017, LEAVING A LEGACY OF SOLID AND OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP.

CURRENTLY, SHE FUNCTIONS AS THE OIC-ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR FIELD OPERATIONS-EASTERN MINDANAO IN CONCURRENT CAPACITY AS REGIONAL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF REGION XI.

AS A STAUNCH LEADER, ONE OF THE CHALLENGES SHE TOOK UNDER THE COMMAND OF PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE AND DENR SECRETARY ROY CIMATU IS TO REHABILITATE THE WATER BODIES OF DIWALWAL, COMPOSTELA VALLEY WHICH ARE CHEMICALLY CONTAMINATED DUE TO IRRESPONSIBLE MINING.

SHE IS TIRELESSLY PUSHING ACTION TO REHABILITATE THE AREA SPECIFICALLY THE NABOC RIVER ENJOINING BOTH THE NATIONAL AGENCIES AND PROVINCIAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNIT OF THE COMPOSTELA VALLEY.

IN JULY 2019, TAWANTAWAN LED THE DELEGATION OF THE PHILIPPINE-EAGA ENVIRONMENT CLUSTER DURING THE BRUNEI DARUSSALAM INDONESIA MALAYSIA PHILIPPINES-EAST ASEAN GROWTH AREA OR THE BIMP-EAGA’S 8TH ENVIRONMENT CLUSTER MEETING HELD IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM.

THE MEETING WAS ATTENDED BY THE OFFICIALS OF THE BIMP-EAGA MEMBER COUNTRIES WHERE THE CHAIRMANSHIP WAS TURNED OVER FROM MALAYSIA TO THE PHILIPPINES, REPRESENTED BY NO LESS THAN RUTH M. TAWANTAWAN. SHE THEN STATED THAT IT IS NOW THE PHILIPPINES’ TIME AND CHANCE TO DO GOOD IN LEADING THE ENVIRONMENT CLUSTER INTO NEW HEIGHTS.
