A joint Special Order has been signed by the DENR Regional Executive Directors Bagani Fidel A. Evasco of Region 11 and Nonito M. Tamayo of Region 13 in April 12, 2021 at in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
The order stipulates “The creation of Joint Inter-Regional Task Force including its Technical Working Group and Committees” which aims to keep the guards up against timber poaching and to strengthen and intensify the anti-illegal logging transboundary efforts in both regions, being the Timber Corridor and Main Gateway of the South.
Establishment of joint checkpoints with allied forces from the PNP, AFP, the LGUs and the communities is part of the strategies of the task force.
Through the strategically-established monitoring stations, RED Evasco says that “Both regions can file cases against illegal loggers. Matagam gyud sila.”
It is also in line with the department’s aim to demonstrate Sec. Roy A. Cimatu’s sentiment that not only do we safeguard the environment but also seeing to it that the forestry laws, rules and regulations are enforced to ensure and strengthen the protection of forests by keeping the trees standing and not illegally cut.
