MHRWS Eco Park Lights Up For ASEAN @50 Celebration

The Mt. mhrws2Hamiguitan Range and Wildlife Sanctuary (MHRWS) EcoPark in the Municipality of San Isidro, Davao Oriental stand proud to host the ASEAN Landmark Lighting as it celebrates its 50th year anniversary last August 8, 2017.
With the theme “Under One Light, We are One Nation” the golden celebration of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations was held simultaneously in the 70 key cities and municipalities in the Philippines and the capital cities of the regional grouping's member states.
In Region XI, both the Davao City and the Municipality of San Isidro were chosen among the said key cities and municipalities.
The celebration was graced by dignitaries all over the region headed by the Provincial Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang, the mayors of the different municipalities within the province headed by the host Municipality, Mayor Justina MB. Yu of San Isidro, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the strong contingent from the Department of Interior and Local Government (Province, Municipality to the Barangays).
During the event, DENR-XI's Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Marcia G. Isip delivered her message in behalf of DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu.
In her message, ARD Isip expressed her delight and gratification to be part of a momentous event especially that the chosen venue is an identified protected area of the Davao Region with 2 international recognition such as UNESCO World Heritage Site and ASEAN Heritage Park.
She stressed further that MHRWS symbolizes unified concerns not only on peace, economic growth but also concerns on environmental conservation and protection.
Governor Dayanghirang and DILG Regional Director Alex Roldan, being the guest speaker, also expressed their delight for being able to participate and witness a memorable milestone.
Participants wore traditional costumes of the 10 member states and were entertained to traditional Filipino songs and dances performed by the local talents.
At about 6: 45 in the evening all the Guests of Honor were gathered together to switch on the giant ceremonial lantern -- a popular Filipino icon with an ASEAN flavour -- hanging at the façade of the museum beneath the Mt. Hamiguitan Natural Science Museum signage.
The giant lantern featured the ASEAN emblem surrounded by the images of the anahaw leaf, sampaguita flower and Mindanao vinta, brightens the whole park. Also, small lanterns strewn all over the park, were simultaneously lit up creating a stunning and magical atmosphere.
The ASEAN has 10 member countries namely: Vietnam; Thailand; Singapore; Brunei Darrusalam; Laos; Cambodia; Malaysia; Indonesia; Myanmar; and the Philippines.(gvarguillas/PAMBCS)


3 Foreigners Arrested for Illegal Possession of Endangered Tree Species

Three5-17 press release - 3 foreigners arrested for illegal possession of endangered tree species resized foreigners were arrested last week by the joint team of National Bureau of Investigations (NBI), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers in a hotel here in Davao City for illegal possession of endangered tree species. 
A Cambodian national and two other Malaysian nationals were caught by surprise when operatives from the NBI XI and officials from DENR XI and BI XI came to their hotel room last May 10, 2018. The three were arrested for violation of Section 77 of Presidential Decree 705 as amended by Executive Order No. 277, and Executive Order No. 23 or the Moratorium in the Cutting of Natural Grown Tree Species.
